I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

 

But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

 

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

We cannot walk alone.

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

We cannot turn back.

There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. *We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by a sign stating: "For Whites Only."* We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."¹

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."²

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:

My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.

Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,

From every mountainside, let freedom ring!

And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.

                And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.

                Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

                Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of
               
Pennsylvania.

                Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.

                Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

                But not only that:

                Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

                Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

                Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.

From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

                Free at last! Free at last!

                Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!³

SUCCESS IN 2007 ---NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS


 


 


 If you want something to change, something's got to change... and YOU are the only thing you really CAN change. As YOU change... as you learn to think the right way. everything else will begin to fall into place just as it should.

SUCCESS -- it's a matter of having a positive attitude and applying motivational principles on a daily basis.

There are FOUR common reasons people fail to achieve their goals!


(1) They have NOT clearly decided exactly what they want!


(2) They have set a goal they have no true passion for. This makes it very easy to give up after two or three bumps in the road.


(3) They lack the practical knowledge of how to create a truly achievable action plan. (Unfortunately, this isn't even taught in business colleges!)


(4) Having failed too many times in the past, new goal attempts are never really totally committed to!

Get crystal clear about exactly what you want. The biggest reason so many people never get ahead is that thy have no idea of what they want, or where they are headed. You will literally "fill in the blanks" -- and amaze yourself with your new found clarity of purpose!


Set achievable goals that are right for you. Setting goals that do not tap into your passions never works. You will take some amazingly simple steps to surprise yourself with new clarity about what you REALLY WANT .. and how to go after it!


Eliminate any personal roadblocks to success. Once you tap into your true passions, roadblocks seem to melt, stumbling blocks no longer trip you, and momentary discouragements become just that -- momentary!


Create an unstoppable belief system. Setting a goal based on your true passions (and creating a believable step-by-step goal plan to achieve it) is amazingly empowering!


Bounce back easily from setbacks or challenges. Once you truly know what you want, you'll tap into your passion. And passion is literally THE unstoppable force.


Overcome fear of failure, doubt, or limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs, fear of failure and personal doubts often come from one thing -- setting a goal you do not truly believe in. This is one problem you will never again have to deal with.


 


It's DECEMBER END  and you're excited. A whole new year awaits you. You have a clean slate from which to start over. Your mind fills with amazing possibilities. It feels as if this is the big chance you've been waiting your entire life for (or at least the last 365 days of it!). You take a big step out into the world. Your skies are filled with sunshine and your energy is brimming. It feels truly amazing to be alive!  


And then, as if by some cruel twist of fate, out of the corner of your eye you see a cloud enter your world from a distant horizon. You turn your head to take a closer look. You feel your energy dissipate as you watch it rapidly grow in size and stature until it literally envelopes you! Uncertain of how to advance, you then retreat back into what's comfortable for you and dream of sunnier days.  


This is the way many of us experience the goal setting process. We're excited about our own potential but feel daunted when we actually take steps outside of ourselves to organise our thoughts and commit to them.


 


The best teacher is a teacher called life. And when you reflect on the past you are capturing the valuable lessons that your life has to offer.

New Year's is the only holiday that celebrates the passage of time. Perhaps that's why, as the final seconds of the year tick away, we become introspective. Inevitably, that introspection turns to thoughts of self-improvement and the annual ritual of making resolutions, which offer the first of many important tools for remaking ourselves.



  1. Lose Weight and Get in Better Physical Shape

THIS IS YOUR LIFE AND YOUR BODY , YOU ONLY GET IT ONCE , NO REPLECEMENTS AND SPARES ARE EXPENSIVE..!..SO BETTER BE IN SHAPE , OR THERE IS A REAL RISK OF BEING ‘SHIPPED’ OUT!


Physical activity builds physical vitality. With every year of your life, you have more to gain from being physically active; as your age-related risks of chronic disease increase, regular exercise generally slows or reverses that trend.


 


In fact, you're even more likely to notice the benefits of regular exercise if you already have a chronic condition.


 


Are you ever going to be fit again as long as you live? The answer is unless you make a resolution to get fit – you’re never going to be fit – ever. The choice is yours; it begins by opting for the stairs instead of the elevator, fruit in place of chocolate, and active rather than sedentary activities.

FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE ARE NOT THOSE WHO EARN THE MOST , BUT WHO KNOW HOW TO SAVE AND INVEST FOR THE FUTURE , THEY DONOT BELIEVE IN IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION.


 


It’s been said that the best defense is a good offense. Developing and sticking to a realistic budget is a brilliant offensive move as it prevents overspending and ensures peace of mind.


Many people find it very difficult to stick to a budget. It does take hard work and a lot of self-discipline, at least in the beginning. The good news is that most people find the longer they can stick to a budget, the easier it becomes.

BEING DEBT FREE , SHOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE MIND , IF YOU CAN HELP IT .!


One of the first things you have to do before any debt can be eliminated is to stop using charge accounts. If you continue to use the accounts, you are only fueling the problem, and building on it, not solving it.


Make a resolution now to stop charging anything and to get financially stable. If you can't pay cash for it, you don't need it, make it just that simple and you will find yourself out of debt in no time at all.


Keep a diary of all money spent, whether it is by cash, check, credit card, etc. Once you know where your money is going, then, and only then, can you take the steps needed to prepare a good budget that you can live with and make huge strides to budgeting your debt away.

More and more people are resolving to spend more quality time with family and friends this year. This means you must consciously decide to actively and purposely work on improving your family situation every day.


You may need to do such things as reschedule business activities to make time for your kids, help your children set and achieve worthwhile goals, and setting aside an hour a day for the family, every day.

A popular, non-selfish New Year's resolution, volunteerism can take many forms such as spending time helping out at your local library, mentoring a child, or building a house to name a few.


Volunteering has risen sharply in the years since we began collecting resolutions. This suggests the possible emergence of a new civic generation and a resolve to make a bigger and better difference with your life.


Resolve to replace the pursuit of success and materialism with the pursuit of contribution and generosity. For this to occur, the critical question must move from, “How can I become successful?” to, “What can I contribute that will significantly impact other people's lives?” By focusing on what we can contribute, we automatically become successful.


BEING SUCCESSFUL AND BEING EXCELLENT HUMAN BEINGS ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!.


10. Get Organized


Resolve this year to plan your days, reduce interruptions, clean off your desk, say "No", and make detailed lists. The benefits of getting more organized include being able to save time, as you no longer look for the same things over and over again or need to replace things you can’t find at all.


You will reduce stress because when you know where everything is, there’s no last-minute rush to find what you need and get out the door on time for school, soccer practice, or that important business meeting.


You will also find yourself being much more productive, as all the time you once spent looking for things can now be used to do more important or more enjoyable tasks.


Most people define being organized as quickly and easily able to find what you need. While this is certainly true, organization is so much more. The ability to staying organized lets you focus on accomplishing your most important goals. That’s the true benefit of being organized.


 


11 BE OPTIMISTIC BY CHOICE


YOU MAY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER SOME EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES ,


                          BUT YOU COULD CHOOSE TO BE OPTIMISTIC


YOU COULD CONTROL YOUR REACTIONS TO THE EVENTS WHICH HAPPEN.


BE ENTHUSIASTIC ….


THINGS WOULD DEFINITELY GET BETTER .


OPTIMISTIC PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY .


A GLASS MAY BE HALF FULL OF WATER ,


BUT FOR AN OPTIMIST GLASS IS FULL-----‘’HALF WITH WATER AND HALF WITH AIR’’!


 


12. DEVELOP THE GRATITUDE HABIT


Count your blessings daily. Doing so will keep you in a positive state of mind.   Surround yourself with positive, encouraging, successful people. They will pull you up no matter what the circumstances.   Come to terms with the fact that in life there is no free lunch. Stop trying to get something for nothing. Doing so is a waste of time and energy you could be using to go after your dream.   It's not what happens to you, it's how you handle it.   Deliver more than you are paid to. Make yourself indispensable to others.   Focus on your strengths. Find an arena you are suited to play in, have the courage to get started, have the courage to not quit, and decide you will give it all you've got for as long as it takes to get the job done.   Live this day as if it were your last. Treat others as if it were their last day.   Take your projects seriously but learn to laugh at yourself.   Don't neglect the details. Excellence comes from taking care of the details.   Smile more. It makes you more approachable, and makes it easier to build your dream team.   Constantly ask yourself, "What is the number one thing I could do in the next 15 minutes to get me closer to my goal?" Then do it right away.  


13. HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE


Protect your attitude. Your attitude determines your altitude. Average talent with great attitude will beat out great talent with bad attitude every time.   Read biographies then model your life after the lives of successful people.   Don't complain about your circumstances. Decide you will make your own circumstances.   Don't kid yourself. Life is hard. Success takes time and massive action.   You only live once. Go for the Gold. Decide you will not simply exist. Decide to live an exciting life. Don't just take up space. Make a difference so you will be missed when you are gone. Decide to leave a legacy.   Be willing to pay the price of success. No pain no gain.   Vividly imagine what your victory will feel like. Replay that victory all the time. It's your preview of coming attractions.  


14.  NO PROCASTINATION


LIVE IN THIS MOMENT ,  NO MORE DAY DREAMING !


 Act in spite of your fear.  No guts no glory.


   Whenever in doubt, go with the bolder choice.   Base your plan on your strengths. Humble yourself to the leadership of those who have done what you want to do. Ask for help and you will succeed faster.   Believe in yourself. Persist in the face of challenges. Don't take "No" for an answer.  Celebrate every small victory.   Follow your heart.   Constantly look for ways to simplify your life.  


15.   LIFE STYLE MODIFICATIONS 


Anger gives people courage to do things they usually would not do. Whenever you are angry, don't waste your anger doing negative things. Harness the energy in your anger to reach your goal.   Embrace change. Change brings opportunity to win.   If you're not failing you are playing too safe and you are not growing. If you want to succeed faster, double your failure rate.   Bite off more than you can chew. Live your life with passion. Read good books, listen to self-development tapes, and attend seminars.


  Forgive others quickly. Being angry at someone else is like drinking poison.   Make your dream so exciting that it takes your breath away. Then, be willing to fight for your dream and future.  


 Every time you make an excuse, you give away control of your life. Stop making excuses.   Don't live life through others. Be the hero in your own life.  


 Watch less TV. Your TV is keeping you from your dreams. TV wastes hundreds of precious hours of people's time - time they could use to make a better life for themselves.


  Establish a mission and a purpose for your life.   Burning desire creates the power to succeed. Develop a passionate desire for your purpose. How badly you want it to happen will determine if you do make it happen.  


16. THINK BIG –DREAM BIG –HAVE LOFTY GOALS ..


BUT DON’T WAIT ,!


START NOW!START SMALL IF IT HAS TO BE …


Set high goals for yourself. If you're not headed anywhere in life, you're headed nowhere.   Wanting to win is not enough. You have to be willing to prepare to win.   Take more chances. You'll never know what you were missing in life until you dare to pursue your dream.


 Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. To get better results you must constantly adjust your approach.


  Fortune favors the brave. Boldness has magic in it. Don't play it safe. Start taking more chances.  Winners have the courage to get started and the courage to endure. Do the things you fear or else fear will control your life.   Commitment creates opportunity. Stop talking and start doing. Think less and act more.  


 The day you take complete responsibility for yourself, the day you stop making excuses, is the day you start moving to the top.   Believe that there is an opportunity in every challenge. Your job is to find it and to take advantage of it.
